The "Lite" model uses a smaller 145W heating element to conserve battery life, which results in slightly longer cycle times compared to the "Turbo" or "Compact" versions.

Initial Warm-up:

The unit uses Dynamic Temperature Control (PID) to maintain a preset temperature of 230°C (445°F).

Initial Heat-up:
Takes approximately 3–5 minutes. It consumes about 1Ah of battery capacity just to reach operating temperature.

Vaporization Interval:
For a standard 2g dose, the treatment takes 20–25 seconds.

Recovery/Cycle Time:
Once the dose is finished, the temperature will drop slightly. You can proceed to the next hive as soon as the LED returns to "Steady-on" (usually a matter of seconds, as it does not require a full cooling/reheating cycle between hives).

Ambient Efficiency:
At 20°C (68°F), 1Ah of battery life provides enough power for roughly 10 treatments (2g each) after the initial warm-up.

The Turbo is significantly faster than the Compact, primarily because it is optimized to run at a higher standard temperature.

Treatment Speed:
A standard 2g dose takes only 10 seconds at the recommended 260°C (500°F). In contrast, the same dose takes ~25 seconds on the Compact at 230°C.

Initial Heat-up:
Takes roughly 3–5 minutes. Like other models, it consumes about 1Ah of battery capacity just to reach the initial operating temperature.

Recovery/Cycle Time:
Because of its 400W power output (vs. 250W in the Compact), the Turbo recovers temperature almost instantly. There is virtually no waiting between hives; by the time you move to the next colony and load the dispenser, the unit is typically back to its target temperature.

Battery Efficiency: *
1Ah provides enough power for approximately 8 treatments (2g each) at 20°C ambient temperature.

Requirement:
A battery with a minimum 4Ah capacity is required to handle the high 22A current draw.

Advanced Digital Display

Unlike the Compact, which relies on a single LED, the Turbo features a side-mounted digital LED screen providing real-time data:

Real-time Temperature: Monitors the crucible heat (adjustable from 230°C to 260°C).

Voltage Meter: Shows the battery's current health and charge level.

Cycle Counters: Includes a "Total Cycles" lifetime counter and a "Battery Cycle" counter to track how many hives you've treated in a single session.

Recovery Time:
The unit reheats automatically after each dose. Continue when the displayed temperature returns close to the set temperature.

Battery Capacity:
A fully charged 80Ah deep-cycle battery can treat approximately 300 hives using 2g doses, depending on battery condition and operating conditions.

Temperature & Voltage Display

The digital display shows the furnace temperature and battery voltage in real time. The operating temperature is adjustable and preset to the recommended 230°C.

Because 12V battery types vary, the operator must monitor the voltage display and avoid discharging the battery below its manufacturer’s recommended threshold.

Frequently asked questions ⎯

Varroa destructor, commonly called the Varroa mite, is an external parasite of adult European honey bees and their brood. It feeds on honey bees and reproduces inside capped brood cells. Varroa was first detected on mainland Australia in NSW in 2022.

Varroa mites weaken individual bees and can transmit harmful honey bee viruses. As mite numbers increase, colonies become more vulnerable to disease and other stresses, productivity falls and untreated colonies may eventually die.

An oxalic acid vaporiser is an electrically heated device used to administer an authorised oxalic acid product inside a hive as part of Varroa management. Treatment should only be undertaken when monitoring indicates it is required and in accordance with the current product label or APVMA permit.

The vaporiser heats a measured dose of oxalic acid powder until it disperses through the hive as vapour and then settles as fine crystals. Because oxalic acid and its vapour are hazardous, operators must follow the product directions, use the specified protective equipment and operate the device outdoors.

APVMA emergency permit PER94609 currently allows Api-Bioxal Powder to be administered by vaporisation in NSW, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. The permit runs until 30 September 2028. Api-Bioxal Solution is not permitted for vaporisation. Always check the current permit and local requirements before use.

Oxalic acid powder and vapour are hazardous. InstantVap specifies a full-face respirator fitted with an ABE1P3 or ABE2P3 combined filter, thick gloves and long sleeves. Safety glasses are also required if the respirator is not full-face. Operate the device outdoors and follow the product label, safety data sheet and equipment manual.

Treatment should only be applied when monitoring indicates that the treatment threshold has been reached. Under the current permit, treatment may be repeated up to twice annually, with at least five days between applications. Do not use it simultaneously with other veterinary products or miticides.

Clean the device after each day of treatment, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow it to cool to approximately 80°C before cleaning, use only a small amount of water through the dispenser tube and keep water away from the rest of the unit. Clean the dispenser separately and allow the unit to dry completely.
